Dedicated to Jagannath, a form of the Vishnu, Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri is an essential Hindu temple, situated in Puri in the state of Odisha. The temple is renowned for its yearly Ratha Yatra, also called a chariot festival, in which the three principal deities are pulled on enormous illuminated temple vehicles.
Shri Jagannath Temple is an important pilgrimage place for Hindus, therefore non-Hindus are not allowed to enter the temple. Unlike the stone and metal insignia observed in most maximum Hindu temples, the image of Jagannath is made of wood.
According to the story, the first Jagannath temple was constructed by King Indradyumna, son of Bharata and Sunanda, and a Malava king, which is specified in the Mahabharata and Puranas.
