Patiala Tourism

The fourth-largest city in the state and the administrative capital of the Patiala district, Patiala, is located around the Qila Mubarak (the Fortunate Castle) constructed by the Sidhu Jat chieftain Ala Singh.

Named after Ala Singh, who founded the royal dynasty of Patiala State in 1763, the city is one of the most famous destinations in Punjab.

The name of the city comes from the Pati and ala, the Pati means a strip of land in the Urdu language, and ala comes from the name of the founder of the city, Ala Singh, so Patiala means the land of Ala.

Qila Mubarak, Sheesh Mahal, Moti Bagh Palace, Gurudwara Shri Dukhniwaran Sahib, Bahadurgarh Fort, and Kali Devi Temple are some of the most prominent tourist destinations in the city.
