Located around 17 kilometers south of the Leh, Thiksey Monastery is the largest monastery in central Ladakh. The buildings of Thiksey Monastery are structured in a hierarchical order and are situated on the hilltop.
The Thiksey Monastery is popular for its structure and location. The 12-story monastery has 10 stupas, an assembly hall, and is home to 120 monks. There is a large statue of Maitreya (future Buddha) that covers about two floors of the monastery.
Besides the monastery, some rare, valuable stupa, statues, thangkas, paintings of the wall and swords are also visible. The Monastery is famous for pilgrimage activities, structural factors, sightseeing, and exploration.
