A prominent landmark and one of the top tourist attractions, Jama Masjid is situated in Delhi. The Masjid e Jahan Numa, also known as the Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India. The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built the Masjid between 1650 and 1656.
The Jama Masjid, originally called Masjid-e-Jahan Numa, was constructed by over 5000 workers. Imam Syed Abdul Ghafoor Shah Bukhari inaugurated the mosque on 23 July 1656 at the invitation of Shah Jahan. Around 25,000 people can pray in the courtyard at a time.
