Located in the Golden Temple complex of Amritsar, Akal Takht was founded by Sri Guru Hargobind Ji on June 15, 1606. One of the Five Takhts of the Sikhs, Akal Takhat means the ‘Throne of the Immortal’ and is the most important political institution of the Sikhs.

Originally known as Akal Bunga, During the June 1984 assault on the Golden Temple by the Indian Army, the Akal Takht was severely damaged. Guru Hargobind used the Akal Takht to hear the suffering of the people and organize the court.

    The Akal Takht is built on a site with a wide open area that includes a huge mound of land. Such a marvelous architectre.
